School Counseling Vision Statement
Every student will acquire the personal/social, academic, and career development skills to reach their fullest educational potential and successfully manage their lives as healthy, responsible, competent, and productive citizens who respect themselves and others.
My name is Patricia Byrne and I am the school counselor at WSMS. I have a Master's Degree in School Counseling from Loyola University Maryland and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary/Middle School Education from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. I am a wife, mother, coffee lover and globe trotter. I enjoy seeing students live up to their fullest potential.
My responsibilities include overseeing a weekly advisory program, running a Peer Mediation Program, working with Morgan County Partnership's character education program, and facilitating small groups regarding academic and friendship concerns. I also meet individually with students regarding scheduling concerns, bullying, crisis counseling, family changes, organization, friendship issues and stress management.
Students are welcome to check in with me. If a referral for long term counseling is needed, I would be glad to recommend our county social work, external therapy services, or both.
As I work with students, they complete a Middle School Portfolio that explores different college and career readiness options to prepare them for their High School Personalized Education Plan meeting during the 8th grade year. Other responsibilities include testing, Unity Day, the annual 7th grade Career Day and 8th grade trip to James Rumsey and Blue Ridge.
Please feel free to call (304-258-1500) or email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have a student concern. Students may fill out the counseling request forms located in the front office and classrooms.
